About Katherine Flores – Kflo

I grew up on the coast of Maine, in Cape Elizabeth, where the Atlantic does its quiet, relentless work shaping stone, weathering certainty, teaching patience without ever naming the lesson. That sense of time and tide never really left me.

Katherine Flores: New Yorker

Graduate school brought me to New York City in 1994. I expected it to be temporary. It wasn’t. I’ve lived here ever since, drawn in by the city’s velocity, ambition, and tolerance for complexity. The city rewards people who can think clearly while many things are happening at once. That turned out to be a skill I’d use everywhere.

Katherine Flores: Strategist

For more than twenty years, I worked in advertising and marketing as a brand strategist, writer, and manager inside some of the most elite boutique and large-scale agencies in the world. Eventually, I opened my own company as an SEO strategist and content writer.

In total, I spent decades helping companies find the right language for what they actually do, and the right structure for how they communicate it. I learned how power works. I learned how conflict hides inside misalignment. I learned how often people talk past each other while believing they’re being perfectly clear.

Katherine Flores: Writer

During those years, I also created LadyKflo.com. At first, it was a place for art, ideas, and curiosity, a parallel life that let me explore meaning without deadlines. Then it became something quieter and more enduring: a practice of paying attention.

Inspired by heartfelt blogs of the early Internet, I channeled my personal experience into a weekly piece. Also, thanks to my crone status in society, I added advice sections into each piece. People ask me loads of questions and this is where I answer them with thoughtful insight. Not that I expect anyone to actually take the advice. It just gives them a new POV.

Katherine Flores: Mediator

In 2023, I trained as a mediator in New York City under one of the most respected mediators in the field, in a program widely regarded as among the most rigorous and demanding. Mediation wasn’t a career pivot so much as a revelation. It gave formal structure to something I’d been doing informally my entire life: helping people slow down, hear each other, and make decisions without blowing things up.

Katherine Flores: Business Owner

That same year, I also opened a small business with a partner (Tiny Taco BK). Running a business from the inside, while simultaneously mediating other people’s partnerships, sharpened everything. There is no better education in power, trust, resentment, and repair than co-owning something that matters to you.

Today, I specialize in mediation for business partnerships. Founders. Co-owners. Long-term collaborators who want to keep working together, but can’t continue doing things the way they are. My work sits at the intersection of communication, strategy, and emotional intelligence – grounded, practical, and unsentimental.

Alongside all of this, I’ve always written. I’ve published a short story. I’ve written in every genre: poetry, a play, essays, websites, frameworks, and recently, a book on mediation. Writing has never been the side project; it’s been the through-line. The way I think. The way I make sense of things. The way I come back to myself.

This site is where it all converges.

Katherine Flores: Blogger

Here, I write personally about work, art, partnership, conflict, ambition, attention, and the quiet negotiations we make to live honestly. I write the way I talk to people I trust. Not to instruct, but to illuminate. Not to brand, but to tell the truth as cleanly as I can.

If you’re interested in thoughtful living, clear language, and the human side of building things – this is where I do that work in public.

Welcome.
